His partner Ed, is a bachelor, and probably explains his ability to travel the world and learn about different cultures. He has grown kids who have left the nest. On the personal side, Dave lives with his lovely wife, Jacqueline, in Middle Village. Additionally, when we have our JPCA Christmas Raffle, again, Dave and Ed can’t do enough for us. Recently when the JPCA had its 70th Anniversary Dinner/Dance, Dave and Ed donated a couple of huge baskets of cheer that we raffled off at the 70th. The JPCA has dealt with Ace Wines & Liquor now for several years and I can tell you they are neighborhood good guys and JPCA cheerleaders, always eager to be helpful and cooperate with anything we ask of them. For the novice going in a liquor store to buy an appropriate bottle of liquor or wine for a party or special event, Ed and Dave’s knowledge and expertise serves them well and they can guide you to making the right purchase for your social function. ![]() Another good feature that a customer will realize immediately is how friendly and easy to talk to both of these guys are, no pretense, just down home friendliness. Their goal, in these very difficult financial times, is to remain competitively priced. The business partnership of Dave and Ed and their knowledge of the wine and liquor business has enabled them to increase their customer base over all NYC boroughs. It probably explains why the store is usually crowded when you go in for a purchase!ĭave Lichtenheim has been in the wine and liquor business for a total of thirty-one years, twenty-six of them with Ace Wines, at their current location. You might call him an oenophile (wine expert!) Given the diversity of the borough of Queens, Ace’s wine inventory is vast enough to satisfy the most discriminating consumer. The way the story goes, Ed Sokol, a lifelong resident of Elmhurst, is a world traveler and in his travels he has acquired a working knowledge of many of the wines that Ace features from all over the world. Ace also is an advertiser in the Juniper Berry.Īce Wines is owned by two area residents, Dave Lichtenheim and Ed Sokol and they have been at their current location for many years.
